2010 Garden Party

PRESS RELEASE

Warners Farm, Wimbish played host to our annual Garden Party on Sunday 12th September in aid the Landslide Appeal in Tang Ting, Nepal.  The event brought together the Nepalese Community with local people.

The Saffron Dance Band, who gave their time free of charge, added to the garden party atmosphere whilst many enjoyed a glass of Pimms or a cream tea.  Cakes were supplied by the many wonderful bakers in the Debden and Wimbish communities.

Villagers could enjoy a relaxing hand massage, back massage and aromatherapy treatments provided by local beautician Claire Brown who uses organic products.

Meanwhile the children delighted in having their faces painted or winning prizes on the Hook a Fish stall.   Steve Barsby, a local magician entertained the grown-ups and children alike impressing them with a dramatic escape act from a canvas bag.

Nepalese handicrafts were for sale as well as Gurkha Cookbooks and note cards depicting the children of Tang Ting against the backdrop of the Annapurna range.

One of the highlights of the afternoon was a Balloon Race with over 100 biodegradable helium filled balloons launched into the bright autumn sunshine.  Balloons and equipment kindly donated by The Great British Balloon Company.

We would like to thank Moray Bayliss, Chairman of the Tang Ting Twinning Association for providing a wonderful hamper of home grown produce for the raffle and the jam makers of the community who always generously donate to our fundraising events.

Tina Knight, District Cllr for Debden and Wimbish Wards said “We are really delighted that the whole community has supported this event.  I would like to particularly thank Lt Col Simon Bell and other army personnel from Carver Barracks and representatives from the Nepalese community travelling all the way from London, for attending.”

Jackie Gunn, event organiser, said “I am delighted that we have been able to raise the magnificent sum of £900 for the Monsoon Landslide Appeal and would like to thank all the stallholders and volunteers for their giving their time for such a deserving cause”.

Readers wishing to donate to the Appeal should send their cheques to: Tang Twinning Twinning Association, PO Box 44, Saffron Walden, Essex CB11 3ND.
