Chok Gurung, a Nepalese long distance runner, will be running in the London Marathon on 22nd April 2012, on behalf of the Injured Soldiers Fund and a new Medical and Dental Centre in Tang Ting, Nepal, home of many Gurkhas.  Chok says “I am so honoured to be able to run in the London Marathon to help raise money for people who can’t run at all”.

The 33 Engineer Regiment and 101 Engineer Regiment are based at Carver Barracks Wimbish.  A squadron from the base is always deployed to Afghanistan where they are tasked with one of the most demanding and dangerous jobs – clearing the region of roadside bombs.  The Injured Soldiers Fund was set up to provide immediate assistance to the injured soldiers and their families.  Help us to help our local soldiers.

The Tang Ting Twinning Association’s aim is to provide a new Medical and Dental Centre for Tang Ting and the surrounding villages.

The successful TTTA medical mission in November 2011 provided a Haemacue unit, a portable dentist chair and dental instruments and treated all of the children in the village as well as many adults.  The necessity of a medical centre was proven by the number of people from other villages whom had walked miles across mountainous terrain to see the doctors and dentists.  Bisnu Giri walked for twelve hours with disfigured and scarred limbs and untreated wounds as a childhood accident in a fire had totally destroyed one foot and all the toes on the other.  The medical team and visitors were so impressed by the courage and independence of this young shepherdess that sponsorship was pledged to TTTA for travel fares, treatment and the fitting of prostheses in England.  Sponsorship was also pledged to finance her employment as an English teacher at the village school.

The very simple agricultural way of life that exists in the village of Tang Ting is very unlikely to change significantly over the short or medium term, however healthcare and educational standards have improved and will continue to improve with your help and sponsorship.
